Thanks to all for the suggestions. No, a transformer was never part of the thinking. We currently have a 230VAC machine my wife bought in Japan a few years ago. It is falling apart, which does not make me very optimistic about buying another export-only model, which is why I asked here.

My wife will check out the suggestions before she leaves.
