I flew ANA's international 747 once back in 2010, not long before it was retired, CDG-NRT. The product was basically exactly the same as the pre-IOJ 773 so not really much to write home about, though I imagine the upper deck would have been somewhat cool.

747s generally get sold to cargo carriers, though Transaero bought up a bunch from JAL fairly recently and is running them in passenger service.

Back in "the day" when there were tighter capacity restrictions at HND, the 747s were flown on many more domestic routes. They were common on the Tokyo-Osaka route until ITM banned 747s several years ago, and I think they were even more common before KIX opened as ITM was really under capacity constraints in those days. Nowadays HND has tons of excess capacity as do many of the secondary airports in Japan, so they can afford to use smaller jets.
