Not that that would be automatic for every GE member, of course, but for somebody close to the southern border I'm not really seeing how it might be more beneficial to apply for SENTRI over GE. I'm pretty sure GE is even open to Mexican nationals at this point too.

On paper it looks like once vehicle registration is brought into play it's the exact same program under another name, which is causing me to wonder why the fee structure is different. Grandfathered-in policies, maybe? That seems to be the case with NEXUS.

I think I'm just paranoid that I'm missing some fine print somewhere, haha.
The difference is that in order to use a SENTRI lane your car has to be registered with CBP. That means that car has to be inspected prior to the approval being given. GE allows the use of NEXUS lanes coming back into the United States the vehicle does not have to be registered but everyone in the car has to be GE or NEXUS.

GE allows the use of SENTRI lanes coming back into the United States as long as the car has been registered through SENTRI with CBP. All the occupants of the vehicle need to be SENTRI or GE.

The above post about the vehicle being marked for use of SENTRI lanes is no longer correct. The sticker on the vehicle like the GE sticker on the passport is being phased out. The vehicle will be tied to the SENTRI program by its license plate.
