The Free TV offer I received for my 6/27 MDW-LAS flight was packaged as being in celebration of Southwest's Birthday. The free TV offer on my 7/1 LAS-MDW flight was the Dish offer. Both planes were 800s. Both offers included free streaming TV and on-demand shows; no movies and no wifi without paying more. On the outbound flight, I was surprised to find the streaming TV working pretty well. There was nothing on live TV I wanted to watch, so I tried streaming some episodes of 30 Rock from the on-demand selection. I watched about 20 minutes of a show and it froze up, requiring a reboot of my laptop. It later froze up again, along with the flight tracker. I was dozing off when I heard the FA announce that they were going to reboot the wifi to try to get it working. I never tried again. On the flight home to MDW, I needed wifi and found it unbearable slow... but the streaming TV was working great. I'm thinking WN has decided to give bandwidth preference to entertainment vs internet connectivity, which is a shame. As I posted in the other thread about free iPads, the Dish free TV offer makes you watch a short video ad, and includes a couple Dish offers via banner ads -- a big new subscriber one that requires you call in, and a 500 RR point one that just requires you give your contact info via a webpage form (also unbearable slow to complete).
