Thanks a lot for the quick replies!

Flying friends to visit me sounds like a good idea, but apartments in NYC are small. Is there a good hotel deal for transferring points? Or is the value in transferring to hotels so poor that do you advise to use the miles strictly for flying and pay cash for hotels?
