Airlines issuing vouchers for Irregular Operations etc.
I think it would be good if airlines would automatically send you an email with a voucher code to your smartphone or laptop where you would give the code to the vendor. For instance lets say you are given a free night at hyatt you could be directed to airline.hotel.com and be asked to enter the voucher code in the portal website and it would make the reservation for you. All you would do is present your ID and confirmation#. At the time of checkout the voucher is applied.
For airport restaurants you would give the voucher code to the merchant and they would enter the code thus deducting the $10 from the meal. The voucher would display the name of the passenger it was issued to so you would show your ID at time of purchase.
This way there would not be anymore long waits in line. As part of this you would get an automatic rebooking link you would be directed to airline.rebooking.com and enter your PNR after that you would be given a choice of flights and be able to reactivate your PNR and print the boarding pass for the new itinerary.
Also you could be given the voucher code for future reservations with this method. All you would do is go to rebooking.airline.com and the portal would apply the voucher.
Revenue services would automatically be sent the bill and that the voucher was used and presented to (hotel agent ID) so there would not be reissues of used vouchers etc.
Lets say the airline authorized airline club access the voucher code would be entered into the POS system of the airline lounge and an e Daypass would be issued and used electronically.
I have seen so many companies do e-vouchers like Ticketmaster gives online tickets for concerts.
The gate agents have so much to do so once you have been "offloaded" from a flight or the entire flight has been cancelled people would be told to either go online using their laptop or go to a kiosk and select their PNR and go under Irregular Operations(which only activates when the voucher has been issued). You will be able to book your hotel as the Confirmation# would be linked with your voucher so all you do is get a print out of your confirmation to show the shuttle driver.
I hear too many stories of people waiting in line to get their vouchers. In fact if a passenger is already at a hotel and the airline knows there are irregular operations the voucher can be used for an additional night at the hotel if there is room or they can go onto rebook.airline.com to get their new room and meal vouchers for the hotel applied to the account.
What is your idea on this method? Any pros and cons? I have not seen such a system as I have been given physical vouchers when I volunteered to be bumped.
