I believe ATL-JNB is restricted based on the elevation and atmospheric conditions in JNB, not simply because of it's length. I don't know if the additional length of DTW/JFK-SIN would negate any benefit from lower elevation/more temprate climate.

But I agree - LAX would seem to make the most sense.
