I agree... I once had a checked bag about 1kg over the limit and the agent did not seem to care. It even got the "heavy" sticker slapped on it.
I even changed flights once at the gate as all flights were delayed due to weather. My checked bag even made it to the earlier flight.

Each fare paying passenger gets up to 50lbs of luggage. If the person has 2 bags under 50 lbs they only have to pay an additional luggage item fee not an overweight fee. I've seen this in action at Porter. They're really an easy airline to use. They also allow a carry on for free that can be gate checked for free.
I don't feel Porter Nickle & Dimes at all. They provide a great service on clean planes with nice people and give you a lounge (at many locations) with snacks and drink and on board you get snacks and drinks too.
