I'm looking to travel with my wife to Malaysia (KUL and PEN) in February 2014 for a holiday. I do have a MH F award in place but I really need to use 1 of my Amex 241's this trip before it expires in April. I'm aware that BA don't fly to Malaysia so I'm happy to spend some miles getting there from a BA destination. I'd appreciate any thoughts/experiences about my options.

So far, I've looked at the following options:

Through PEK or PVG

Plenty of premium cabin availability and reasonable Avios expenditure to get there but still some way away from KUL so quite a long journey. Not sure what the visa implications might be going through those.

Through India

Again, good availability and relatively near KUL but I've never transited through India and read some horror stories about it all.

Through SIN

Nearest BA station but high redemption rates and tough availability. I'd still have to stump up quite a few miles to get to Malaysia although it would be an easier trip. I could just pay a fare to KUL and/or PEN from SIN but fares aren't cheap on MH for those.

Through HKG

Long way round and limited premium availability although it is a place I'd be happy to stopover for few days.

I've also had a look at TYO and BKK but the former is a bigger redemption and long way while BKK won't have F in 2014 and Club availability seems very hard to find.

Any thoughts/experiences?
