I wish I had found this thread 18months ago when I moved to Chengdu. When I was getting ready to move here I found out about Jiuzhaigou and I really wanted to go there. When I got here I was amazed by how few people speak English and basically psyched myself out of going since I can barely get by in Chengdu & figured it would be even more difficult.
Now I don't think I have time as I'm leaving in 6 months and really won't have any opportunity to take off of work and there are no long weekends. The best I could do would probably be fly up on Friday & back on Sunday which would only give me 1 day there and hardly seems worth it.

One full day is enough, concentrate on the Rise Valley side and you will definitely not regret it. I also suggest not eating in the hotels except for breakfast, the food is just OK but pricey and the local restaurants do a much better job.
