I doubt Hilton wants a downmarket brand after they spent years dragging Hampton Inn up to where it is. Hampton Inn before Promus bought it was pretty darn close to La Quinta. Clearly someone had a strategy that said there was more money to make by going upscale. Now the Hampton Inns, at least the newer ones, are essentially Hilton rooms w/o the lounge and the room service.

I like the new Hampton standards the challenge is they require bigger towns then before.
