Do the other legacy airlines provide compensation (hotel, meals, etc) for weather-related delays?
I know weather-related delays suck, but everyone in Washington DC was affected and it was pure bad luck that there was a storm passing through that cancelled flights across the board on all the airlines. I am not trying to be insensitive to OP where he and his GF may miss an important event, but it seems like some things (weather) are outside the airline's control.
Any frequent flyer had has his/her share of weather-related delays/cancellations. When it is mechanical delay, that is a different story as it is mainly the airlines' responsibility for keeping their aircrafts in operating condition. Then there are crew-related delays, where pilots/FAs don't show up to work and they don't have replacements to fill in.
