I think the "end of August" to mean one has until the end of August to spend $500 to qualify for the annual fee waiver, i.e., 3 months from application.
Sorry clipper, but only the OLDER original weblink with the $500 spend requirement had the Jun 28th expiry....my OP was edited to show newer info on TOP, and then OLDER info on bottom. If you use one of the newer links, or call to speak to a rep or go into a branch, you'll get the $0 spend requirement, and these are STILL available, AFAIK...and till end of August, unless CIBC pulls the promo now, due to the recent announcements of Aeroplan potentially switching to TD, away from CIBC.

Sorry for the confusion, my bad. I'll update my OP to make it clearer, I hope.
