Ah, I see, thanks for that, interesting. As always your knowledge is second to none ^ and I always very much appreciate your post (s). I just assumed (wrongly ) in the scenario you posted that was the normal way. Thank goodness I put a little disclaimer into my post!

If a week on Monday is yonks away then it seems it is light years until I 'retire'

Thanks SF. I know TA's sometimes hold back on payments until very late but assumed that once the customer had paid then there is no refund, or it's on a sliding scale but I've no TA corporate knowledge. A lesson learnt for me is never dip ones toe into a thread with poor knowledge.
