Ha, it's her friend's wedding--she's not lying. She took a suitcase to work! Ha. (And she'll be here tomorrow, just really really late.)

Don't airlines have agreements with the other airlines to get her home, same day if needed? If she didn't answer her phone and ended up at airport would she be put on a plane, maybe not even a United plane, or do they tell her only option is to come back tomorrow?

Money is just the money she already paid. Now refund + a $400 voucher or something is a different story. I would have just booked her a new RT using miles or something. Is United stingy with compensation?
