I heard last night that the Chelsea location is closing. Barton will be moving into the much smaller Crunch location in the Archive Building on Christopher Street in October. Anyone else know more?
2004 to 2009 was the time to be at Barton. So sad to see it go.
Same thing with Chelsea itself - the 90's and 00's were the best. Now it's suburban - still some bright spots like Gym, but basically, Chelsea is waning as a gay enclave - this development is just part of that.
The Archive Building is actually more convenient for a lot of people who don't necessarily live in the West Village. I could see paying $110/month and going every other day (which is my workout frequency right now). It's also near the Piers, some of the night clubs of course, so in the right area.
