Ok, here's the update....because it is a really crappy redemption in terms of points, they ended up much better off redeeming through the Ultimate Reward site and getting the 20% bonus. They were able to use their points for all six tickets...
If I were to have transferred points from Chase UR it would have been 52,500 points + $10 per person.
If I go through the Chase UR travel portal (or whatever it is called) it was 39,071 and zero $.
If I paid cash it would have been $488.40 per person. The 39,071 is 48,840 points * 20%.
It's funny, because I don't see many people talking about this type of option, it just worked because it was a crappy redemption to begin with.
My friends are thrilled because they are out of pocket zero
