MAA opened a new terminal for Domestic a month back and the international will be operational soon. The new terminals are built adjacent to the existing ones.

The waiting area etc is better than the old terminals. but nothing has changed in the locality and I'd suggest to stay put in the airport, since you are arriving late in the night for both the cases and between Arrival process & reporting to Departure, there may not be much time to venture out.
