That always seemed strange to me. Because the second you have a "better" lounge, everyone's going to go there.
It would make a lot more sense (for the airlines) if they only allowed you in their own lounge, when available. But then that gets into tricky questions of what it means to be "available" (at the airport, in the terminal, near your gate, etc.).
