For some reason as I checked, it was true for all SNA-MDW or MDW-SNA flights: if the stop/connection was DEN, than separate tickets were cheaper. (by $20 - $30 )
I am wondering for the reason. Sale price for the DEN tickets, but not, if you only connect in DEN? I do not remember seeing similar before this sale.
The three way fare war in DEN between UA, F9, and WN creates situations like these in which it can be cheaper to buy separate tickets and build a manual connection in Denver.
