So as you said for "out" included all cabin and cargo doors - the cargo door was open so I guess that counted...

I guess as a passenger (or one who picks up passengers), I would want to see the status remain "Taxiing to the Gate" until the cabin door opens. For DOT/FAA, I can see the current method is fine.

Of course, there is plenty other fish to fry so this will have to wait
