Once you've registered for DTAC/Happy e-Services, their web-based management platform, you can log-in without the need to receive an SMS. You may have elected to receive an SMS when your account is accessed, and you may need to receive a OTP via SMS for some account activities (itemized billing, promotion switching, etc.). You can originate up to 50 free (to other DTAC/Happy numbers - other numbers are 2 baht per) SMSes via this platform.

I'm not certain that originating an SMS keeps the Kong Kra Pan SIM alive? I used to have that SIM but switched to DTAC post-paid a few months ago.

AIS/One-2-Call's 900 MHz concession ends in 2015 so they are moving their post-paid customers over to the new licensed subsidiary: AWN. And they are selling new pre-paid SIMs under this new sub. There are obviously a lot of One-2-Call pre-paid SIMs still in the channel.

These new SIMs are sold udner the AIS/1-2-Call 3G brand, and are called Freedom 3G, note the 3G 2100 MHz on the lower-right corner of the package.

The new top-up rates for these SIMS are 30 days for any top-up from 10 to 150 baht, and 60 days for any top-up from 200 to 1,500 baht. So for 120 baht (12 top-ups of 10 baht each) you should be able to get ~ 360 days validity?

I have no experience using this new service but assume it roams on to their legacy 900 MHz (GSM and 3G) network when you are outside of 2100 MHz coverage. I did buy one of these new SIMs to experiment with but I've yet to activate it. The SIM package is good for one year, it has to be activated by 30 June 2014.

You can layer on 3G data plans.
