flight62, I, too, appreciate you providing the actual story.
It's a very sad story, IMHO. I firmly believe gun owners carry a burden of responsibility for knowing where their weapons are and keeping them secure at all times. I believe that flight crews who use 'known traveler' (or pax who use GE) are held to a higher standard.
OTOH, we all make mistakes. This may have been a quick turnaround after a vacation - unpacking from one trip while repacking for her back-to-work flight. People do forget things. Her forgetfulness is probably going to cost her dearly, and there's no reason at this point to think she was ever a threat to anyone. Poor woman.
I hope this doesn't result in ramped up reactionary random searches or hassles (out of an abundance of caution) for other members of the 'known crewmember' program.
