While this is annoying on a domestic-domestic, it really doesn't matter here. Even if this were the same aircraft continuing on to MCO, all intl arrivals (except pre-clearance) are processed at the first port of entry.

If this happened to be the same aircraft, OP would still disembark, be processed through immigration, retrieve his bags, go through Customs, drop his bags and head to his departure gate. The sole difference here is that he will head to a different gate and board a different aircraft.

That may matter a bit on the misconnect front, but not much.
