Sorry to hear about your damage. I would press FEDEX for a qualified repair estimate, and also contact Rimowa.

Your experience with FEDEX is interesting as many here in Europe have begun using FEDEX and other post carriers to ship luggage to North America. Many do not take checked baggage on flights, using post carriers as a safer alternative.

This I am told is done to avoid problems with inside thefts at airports. Nonetheless, the luggage cases and contents are examined and security-inspected as tey must be, before being flown on as FEDEX cargo.

Perhaps I am wrong, but I thought FEDEX insured items shipped at least to the value of $250. USD ? I know the shipment price alone from Europe to North America is about $300. USD, thus adding assurance costs is getting near to the purchase price of a new Rimowa case !
