Seriously, you think publicizing something as a World Heritage Site preserves it? A lot of these places need to be fenced off and instead the UNESCO results in a huge influx of tourists. Honestly, this is all about local merchants, innkeepers, cab drivers greasing the skids to get the WHS seal of approval so they can make more money. Sorry to be so emphatic, I'm sure some good comes out of it, but IMHO it's mostly a huge corrupt scam.
