This is what TBIT looks like now
The 4 west facing gates on the new south concourse are 150, 152, 154, and 156. The east facing gates are in the old TBIT south concourse (101-106 - the BA 747 is parked at gate 104 or 105). The one west facing gate in the middle of the photo (under the US flag) is 148. I think the 3 west facing gates on the new north concourse are 130, 132, and 134. These gates will begin service later this year when the Departure Hall/Villaraigosa Pavilion/Westfield LAX opens.
Looks like there will be portals from the new south concourse to access old south concourse and existing east facing gates (101-106) and until they are demolished - I assume the same on the north concourse. I count 5 portals facing east on the new south concourse (151, 153, 155, 157, 159) plus a 6th one facing south (158). It takes a bit of imagination to see this but right now, the odd numbered east facing gates in the new south concourse are not open to the tarmac... the old south concourse is in the way. As the old south gates/concourse are demolished, the new east gates will open to the tarmac instead of the old terminal.
The new east facing gates are closer to the new south concourse (by eliminating the old south concourse) to make way for bigger A380 gates. Also to provide more room for planes to maneuver between TBIT and T4.
I hope this all makes sense...
