Nowadays I find that urbanspoon.com is a much better resource than asking for personal recommendations. Urbanspoon collates the personal recommendations of everyone.
That said, I'm a local and we enjoy Waxy O'Conners, Iron Cactus (good food, abysmal service) and Q on the River (in the Hyatt Regency). Schilo's Deli just off the Riverwalk is outstanding.
