I would think that a criminal could use a simple RFID reader to capture your Expresspay information? Heck, they could even hide in a crowd, and wave a wand over a wallet that's still in your pocket?
contactless payment has been in use in HK since 1997, and earlier in Japan. If it survives the security "tests" in HK, the technology is proven.
