Everything in aviation revolves around obsessive attention to safety. Not showing the video properly, not closing the screens, not collecting glasses are the purview of Transport Canada not Customer Service. If this is the norm for a given SD, the book should/will be thrown at him/her. Take off and landing are by far the most dangerous phases of a flight. Frequent flyers will be happy until something goes wrong and airbags deploy into the screens, glasses go flying around the cabin, etc.,.
I agree...the obsessive attention to safety has resulted in a noticeable decrease in accidents over the past few decades. When I was growing up in the 70's, several serious accidents per year in North America was the norm. Now, we don't expect even one in North America with far more aircraft in the air.
