Two scenarios here:
1. GA was incompetent with Stand by procedure and should have added you to the list.
2. GA knew everyone on the flight had checked in, all connecting passengers had arrived, and everyone was ready to board - therefore not leaving any open seats.

I agree, GA could have easily added you to the list but you never really know what they know (or don't know).
