I would think that a criminal could use a simple RFID reader to capture your Expresspay information? Heck, they could even hide in a crowd, and wave a wand over a wallet that's still in your pocket?
Depends on the issuer but different encryption methods are used, but one other solution is to have more than one contactless card in your wallet. They can't be read when together.
