I think the limit is based on the number of segments, which I think is 4 for a OW award, 5 per direction for RT. Lots of discussion and FAQs here http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...solidated.html You can usually force the <24h connection in the multi-city booking engine to route through the stopover of choice.
