1) He really needs to be more aware of his surroundings. Any gate I have ever been to has the destination clearly stated at the gate. It would probably be common sense that when you show up to "your" gate, you take a look at the sign. (In fact, I think it would be difficult to go to the gate and NOT look at the sign).

2) What does your statement: "He was not given another flight choice since his plans had changed due to his aunt calling him and telling him not to come down due to her being ill." mean?? Something sounds fishy about this. Are you saying he got to ATL, and between ROC and ATL his grandma decided she did not want him to come? If she did not want him to come, then why was he still hanging around the gate? Would need more information to tell for sure, but something seems fishy here.

(In other words...not to sound accusatory...it sounds VERY fishy that he had this trip planned...then for some reason the plans changed--at whatever time--and he is now trying to take the fast train back to ROC. He is sad that he has to waste his return leg, and pay to get back home, so therefore he is looking for any excuse--ie a gate change--to make it sound like it was Delta's fault. Again, I have no idea if this is the case...it's just the cynic in me going wild...).
