For what its worth, LX2800 dep ZRH 0700 gives a bit more time. And there is the direct ZRH-EWR of course.
Agree, not a big transfer hub, but also a small airport. Whilst I have never done transfers as I live here, as far as I can judge, there is an escalator up to the departure lounge just before you go through the arrivals duty-free, without going through security.
The security seems to be reserved for passengers arriving at the C-gates. In any case I've never seen anyone in there, so even if you have to go through there it's not going to take more than a minute. One hour should be ample for this.
