Generally unless it's medical, travelling First or there's a really awkward onward connection there will be little you can do to expedite the process. All the more so if there are lots of people in this situation. The bags will get to you, probably in the next 24 hours, and on balance you are best to get on with your life and leave them to it. If there's anything you really need and you are away from home (clothing, cosmetics) then buy it, keep the receipt, photo both the receipt and the item, claim later. Contact your insurer too. Otherwise there's no point fretting, it won't get you very far, so long as BA have your forwarding address/phone number you've done all you can.
