BA doesn't do standby on the whole (it does for staff) though it does for irrops.
I dont tend to chop and change BA flights much as they are normally long haul - however I do use GVA a lot and find them incredibly helpful (outside of the ski season) as to moving flights around on a non fully flex ticket.

Im not sure how much status helps here as am GGL/CCR.
