Traffic in Geneva

I probably have to get from the Chamonix area to Geneva airport on Friday morning (11 am flight, aiming for 8 am at the airport to allow for delays).

Should I cut through the city ? (Anemasse => Eaux-vives)
Or perhaps go around, following the border (D884, without entering Switzerland)
It's a French car with no vignette, so using highway 1 would mean stopping off to buy a vignette.

Would be glad to get any pointers as to which route is better - and how much time I should allow for traffic....

Thanks

D.
