Yeah let the miles accumulate so you can use each account for a decent reward ticket (or to upgrade a regular ticket).
Another easy way to keep the active is to enroll their AA account in the AAdvantage Dining, but input your CC numbers for the account. If you add an email to the account, you get 3 miles per dollar for the restaurants that participate- pretty sweet deal!
