Didn't know there was a checkin timestamp. =)
Does editing the seating assignment, or upgrading affect this timestamp?

It's quite confusing for the customer (well, for me at least). For that particular instance that reminded me of my general confusion, he finished his lecture and printed out the first pass (of 2) for that trip. It did not appear he needed extra keystrokes or other confusing procedures...
Also I have a lot of success asking for reprints at the lounge only 10 minutes prior to departure. Why you might ask? Maybe in my drunken stupor I left my original BP somewhere after security, or after ramming it in my pocket a few times it's no longer legible (especially those new thinpaper kiosk prints)...
Consistency is all I seek. Also I'd like to know when I'm unknowingly receiving exceptional treatment for two reasons: 1) so I don't normally request nor expect it, and 2) so I can acknowledge the agent for the risk possibly incurred by stepping past the rules.
Air Canada has replied to my email inquiry in this matter, but merely pasted the check-in policy from the website. They did not address the difference between checking in and printing a boarding pass, so 2nd round email is already queued.
Seriously, I'd volunteer a year of my time as a consultant to clean up these little things... I think there is so much potential to improve pride among airline workers as well as provide more for society in general...
