In an attempt to sponsor my dad's trip to Asia with my eVouchers, I have booked him a RT on Lufthansa in Economy Class with the goal to upgrade both long-haul legs to C.
Before booking the flight through the SEN-hotline, I had double-checked online as well as through the M&M-hotline that for the preferred dates/flights award seats in C (booking class "I") were available. I then detailed my plan to the agent on the SEN-hotline who advised me to book the cheapest upgradeable Y-fare (booking class "S") and to then call the M&M-hotline and have the long-haul legs instantly upgraded.
So here I went...booked the flights, paid with my CC and the eTix was issued immediately. I then called the M&M-hotline to have the long-haul legs upgraded. "Not possible" was the reply of the booking agent...!? He advised me that although seats in "I" were available, they would be for award tickets only and not for upgrades with my eVouchers. I was puzzled! Minutes earlier the other agent had just stated that an upgrade would not be a problem and suddenly this was not true anymore?
I have in the meantime contacted M&M on this topic (which is VERY disappointing to me....what are eVouchers worth if not for upgrades?) and they came back with the usual "BlaBlaBla", describing to me that there was a substantial difference between an award ticket and an upgrade and that I could not just rely on an upgrade because award seats are still (!!) open.
What is your opinion on this? I always thought that as long "I" class is available, one could either book an award flight or upgrade an existing Y-ticket...
That's another way of how LH is deceiving customers and not being honest. Just redeem your evouchers and quit flying with them.
