I would never expect connecting rooms as a standard. It is in particular an American thing and I hate it to have the noise from the next room in my room.

A "trainee" in a German hotel is probably eine Auszubildende zur Hotelkauffrau - a concept the Anglo-Saxon world does not know. In German we have a three year education - more than you would expect in the Anglo-Saxon world.

This hotel is expensive in everything. However, 29 Euro is not extraordinary for an IC.

I would follow the advice and upgrade to the studio and enjoy it. More space, nice view in a really nice hotel. I will - as a RA - be there again in early July and I am looking forward to my wonderful suite.
