On the topic of the phones (GE Air cell?). I thought it was cool in the late 90's to have the ability to actually receive calls at my seat. I used the feature once or twice, and was always mindful to speak very low so as not to disturb anyone else around me.
I think the service basically worked like this:
1.) You registered an account with GE Air Cell and get a dedicated phone number or PIN (I forget which it was, but it was some kind of unique access method)
2.) Prior to traveling, you provide phone number and PIN to someone to call you if they need to reach you
3.) When taking your seat, you register/check into the phone at the seat so that calls can be routed
4.) Someone calls, the phone rings, and you get a message/prompt to swipe your card, at which point the person is called back
At $2/minute (or was it $3?), however, it was not very popular with people. Anyone else use the incoming call feature?
