Well, I did end up using option one, only instead of UA, I jumped on that 13/14k deal. So it's 7 hours of coach for 14k +$100 from Boston to LHR.

Now I'm trying to figure out a return that doesn't have a huge surcharge.

As for Avios being too restrictive, I never thought of that. But I figure, with all my points, I'll just fly a day or two earlier depending on availability.

I've no idea how early I'll know the interview date..and I still have a year before that happens, so I'll have UR points by then as well.
