Sometimes when I book an award, I see my standard room option listed as "DIA STANDARD ROOM" with verbiage after it that I'm seeing it as a Diamond benefit. I know this isn't the "old" Diamond force, and I don't have a Gold/Silver account against which to test and find out if they wouldn't see an award.
To those who know more than I about HH's systems: am I seeing an award that other people aren't? I noticed this a Dublin stay I have booked for a weekend in August when lots of hotels are booking at high paid rates or already sold out.
Kimpton keeps looking better and better for my NYC, Chicago and NYC stays.
Man, if I had a solid Kimpton option in most of my cities, I'd probably go with them and say forget about the traditional "big chain" points programs. I still think we net more raw rewards-for-dollars-spent on a well played HH AXON, Marriott Travel Package, or Starwood C&P, but Kimpton treats their guests very well on every stay. All of their properties are good: a very classy feel without needing to be priced in the full 5-star (Four Seasons, etc.) category. There's something to be said for that. ^
