I know the rules are that one needs to book travel through the online portal. I am just wondering if I would get flagged by booking directly to delta.com, knowing that my when using my corporate AMEX card, the company automatically reimburses the expenses. If the transaction details are the same when booking thru the portal vs delta.com, I am not sure if one can differentiate where the purchase was made.
I used to work for a company with similar rules and I'm not sure how yours are structured, but one reason we had the setup that we did was because the corporate portal automatically tagged billing codes onto flight purchases. So it's possible you might get "caught" if a charge comes through without a billing code attached, or something along those lines. At my old company that would simply trigger an email to you asking what the billing code should have been; your consequences may be more problematic.
