I realise that handling baggage and frieght can cause some litter - tags dropping off and packaging becoming ragged and blowing in the wind.
Yesterday arvo, taxying for takeoff at Doha airport, I was disgusted with the view out of the airplane window, litter and rubbish everywhere. I thought I was on the access road to the local rubbish tip, rather than sitting in 1st of a A321.
Seems so easy and low cost to fix !
I don't know if it is the root cause in this case, but it's been very windy (and dusty) for the past two weeks in Doha. Lots of junk has been blowing around, since people in general seem to care rather little about keeping the city clean; I haven't really seen any significant amounts of trash around the airport before so it's entirely possible that a lot of the things you saw had been blown in recently.
