I won't shoot you, and wish I could afford to be as patriotic, but there are no longer any benefits to fly AC when I have alternatives that offer more attractive perks for a lot less money. Yes, I will certainly benefit from the non-US resident exemption...but since UA doesn't offer a Cdn cc I would not have that exemption to the spend targets. Yes, I can earn 1K for what it might cost someone else to purchase a single r/t European business class ticket. But I don't have a corporate entity paying for my travel, and when I do have business-related travel, I still look for the most cost-effective means since I don't like soaking clients or contractors unless it is a last minute requirement to travel.
I understand and how much i want to save money as intl. Flex IS expensive for me, but id rather pay the extra $ than re-experience the humiliation i got from US customs and immigration while on transit . I wont go into details but my pride and self respect is worth more than a couple of hundred dollars saved if flying with an american carrier. I am dual and live in both canada and philippines ...all i will say is never again will i allow myself to be yelled at and stereotyped in public where everyone can see and hear.....Sorry but not worth it just to save a few hundred dollars per trip. Happened a long time ago but ill never forget....
