Probably a similar situation to some places in the UK, where the contactless reader hasn't been setup to take Amex contactless, although that is now improving in the UK. When it does work, it is very speedy.
And in the long run it will enable some superstores or larger stores to reduce the number of cashier's desks open.
So no advantage for the customers at all. Only a fraction of a minute used for entering the PIN.
