kinkora is correct, metro/subway booths are notorious for not accepting non-chip cards (I just use cash or talk to a human)

I just got back from Romania, only one place couldnt take my card, in restaurants etc I usually had to point out to slide the card instead of inserting it into the chip reader slot.
